Jannis Kounellis

On 16th February 2017 our friend, the Greek artist Jannis Kounellis, one of the leading figures of the Arte Povera movement, died in Rome’s Villa Mafalda hospital.

Born in Piraeus, Greece in 1936, the artist moved to Rome at the age of 20 to study at the Academy of Fine Arts and considered the Eternal City his adopted home, where he continued to live and work. But he still had his roots in Greece and was connected very deep with his homeland. We honor him and keep him in good memory. Farewell!

Künstlerportraits von Heinz-Günter Mebusch

Documenta Archive in Kassel presents photos from the series of artists by Heinz-Günter Mebusch (1952 - 2001). Portraits of Joseph Beuys, Wolf Vostell, Meret Oppenheim, Gerhard Richter and many other important artists of the 20th century who had participate at Documenta are exhibited during the summer in the time of 07.06 - 03.08.2018. On 30.07.2018 a guided tour is offered.

Mebusch was well-known to over 200 artists of his time and later he realized a conceptual work in which the question "what is art" started on a new level in confrontation between him, his portrayed artist and his art and the viewer. Mebusch further developed the subjective photography of his teacher Otto Steinert (1915-1978) and established a new view on art.

The Work of Heinz-Günter Mebusch is administrated and supervised by Artforum Culture Foundation I The Mebusch Estate.
